Painting Hardware --and a Laundry Sneak Peak!

So you may have heard me mention or noticed on our home tour that we have been SLOWLY working on redoing our laundry room. I say slowly because this project seems to be never ending.
However,
I see and end in sight. [Enter Happy Dance here]. In fact, all that is really left if the organizing and accessorizing --which to me isn't really work because I LOVE this part of any project.

So, today I thought I'd give you a tiny sneak peak of what is coming.

I started with these cute lil' knobs. I wish I could take credit for them and tell you where I bought them but they were actually already on the existing laundry cabinets. So cute right? Well, while their cute, the shiny silver just isn't really going with the new decor. SO I decided I would try to paint them.

First thing that I did (because I wanted to use what I had on hand) was grab some leftover foam that you use when creating plant/flower arrangements. I'm thinking styrofoam would work just as well but I didn't have any on hand. I decided to keep the wrapper on because this stuff can get messy. I just kept the screws attached and pushed them into the foam--trying to give myself enough room to paint all sides of each.
Oh, I almost forgot...before starting, I gave each piece of hardware a good scrubbing using a mix of TSP and water. You could also use Mineral Spirits but I sort of just grabbed the first thing I found.

Then I found (no idea why we had this) some gray automobile primer. I figured that would be perfect for these little guys since they were metal. You probably wouldn't have to go this far. But I figured a primer would be a good idea since these will be handled quite a bit.
Once that dried, I gave them two coats of my favorite oil-rubbed bronze spray paint. I made sure the paint was intended for metal as well.

And then just to be extra safe (and because we had it on hand) I decided to give them a quick clear protective coat as well.
And wa-la! Here they are--ready to come back to our laundry room in their new duds!
Now you might be thinking you liked the silver better--but wait until you see everything put together. It will all make sense then. Soon peeps, soon. I promise. Trust me I have been staying up at night thinking about what I'm going to do when I finally get my hands on this laundry room. Does anyone else do that? Come on, please tell me I'm not alone. :)
Just to give you a little more of a peak, here a few more goodies/projects that are in the works. Guess what I'll be doing this weekend (at least between birthday parties)? So excited! And I can't wait to show you the final product.
