Organizing digital photos from your camera to your computer using some sort of photo software. I will be using iphoto but there are tons of other options available.
Backing up your photos from your computer, why it's so important, and how/where to store your back up.
Organizing loose photos and photo packages.
Creating gallery walls and displays for those special photos.
Today, as promised, I am going to be discussing one of my favorite ways to organize my photos and that is creating photo books, which also leads me into my
VERY FIRST GIVEAWAY!!!
First, let me sort of explain how and why I like to do this. Remember back on Monday's post where I showed you how I organize my digital photos of my girls and family by month throughout the year? Well every year I put all of those photos into a digital photo book so that we can look back on them and remember all of those special moments (that is the reason we take all these pictures, isn't it?) I have done this for the past 3 years and I have to say, I am SO HAPPY I did. They also make excellent gifts and I'm pretty sure the Grandmas look forward to getting one each year.
I also recently decided to display these books as well (sort of like I would a picture in a frame). That way we could enjoy them daily and it encourages us (and guests) to pull one down every now and again and take a stroll down memory lane.
I found these picture ledges at Ikea and decided they would be perfect for my vision. I knew this would be the perfect space to get lots of love and attention since it is right smack dab in the middle of our family room (and couch). Each year I will just continue to add books to the collection and more picture ledges as needed.
Hold on for the GIVEAWAY
I typically have used sites such as Shutterfly or Picaboo to create my photo books in the past. However, I was contacted my a company called My Memories and asked if I wouldn't mind checking out their software. I am so glad I did because I am LOVING it and the possibilities for future projects. I can see why they are rated #1 by Amazon and Top Ten Reviews. There are so many types of photo books, scrapbooks, cards, calendars as well as plenty of other types of projects you can create. Check out a little bit of what I came up with while playing around with it.
Now because I am new to the software and am by no means a digital scrapbooking guru, I decided to go the easy route and use one of their already created designer templates.
I decided I wanted to make a book for my girls so "Princess Diva" seemed like the perfect choice. (As you can see there are LOTS of other choices as well.)
Simply click "next" and it shows you all of the pages already created for your album.
Here is the really cool part. You can choose to to pick and choose the photos you want manually or use fast fill and have them do all of the work for you. It will place all of the photos you have selected into your very own photo book. SO COOL!
However, anyone who knows me, knows I am much to much a control freak to take that route so I chose to pick and choose the pictures I wanted and where to put them.
As I mentioned in an early post this week, my girls LOVE to look at photos of themselves. However, as with lots of things lately, they often end up fighting over who gets to look at what.
So I thought I would create a book all about them as sisters and hopefully promote the sisterly love. So I created a simple book (using the Princess Diva template) to do just that. Each page just focuses on one picture and an action. I'm hoping to
make encourage them to sit down together and look at all the fun stuff they get to do because they are sisters. We'll see.
Here are a couple of pages I created. (They will LOVE all the girly embellishments.)
I LOVED how easy it was to change the pages as I needed. I was able to take out and add embellishments as needed with very little effort.
Another cool feature I found was their My Memories store where you can purchase new digital scrapbooking kits--most of them are under $5.00.
I was so excited that I found (and purchased) a "Year of Memories" calendar.
I'm thinking this may be a great Christmas present. (Pretend like you didn't read this part Mom and Nadine. :)
Each page was full of places to drop in photos and customize the calendar just the way you wanted it. The numbers could also be moved around so it could be used year after year. Loving that idea.
Okay, so are you excited yet?? I know I am. And not only because I am able to use this incredible software, but because My Memories offered one to giveaway as well!!
And guess what? You can get up to 25 entries by going below and completing a few simple steps. 1 entry will be chosen at random next Friday morning here on the blog. SO STAY TUNED!!
And don't worry, if you don't win the giveaway, My Memories has offered my readers a $10 promo code that can be used towards the software if you decide to buy! I will include a link to that as soon as a winner is received.
